The United States has formally submitted felony prices against six Russian intelligent officers for releasing the NotPetya ransomware virus as perfectly as disrupting Ukraine’s ability grid. The NotPetya ransomware virus has reportedly affected banking institutions, an airport and several firms in Ukraine, Russia and overseas, causing billions of dollars in damages.
The accused hackers are members of the Russian GRU, who prosecutors say is behind the “most disruptive and damaging series of computer assaults at any time attributed to a solitary team.” Cybersecurity scientists have also dubbed them as the Sandworm Workforce. Of them, US assistant lawyer normal for national security John Demers said that “no state has weaponized its cyber capabilities as maliciously or irresponsibly as Russia, wantonly producing unprecedented destruction to pursue modest tactical pros and to satisfy fits of spite.”
Prosecutors also blamed the 6 persons for attempting to disrupt the 2017 French elections by launching a “hack and leak” operation to discredit Emmanual Macron. They were also accused of spearphishing attacks versus the global and British corporations for investigating the poisoning of Sergei Skripal in the United kingdom.
The accused hackers involve Yuriy Andrienko, Sergey Detistov, Pavel Frolov and Anatoliy Kovalev. Kovalev in distinct was indicted in 2018 for allegedly being aspect of a Russian hack to affect the 2016 presidential election.
